Why Did You Decide to Join AWA
I joined AWA after my husband brought home a flyer from a gun show about a local AWA chapter. I’m fairly new to shooting, having been encouraged by my husband who has been a lifelong shooter. I learn best in a non-threatening environment and am especially glad that AWA is for women. I believe that women learn differently than men and that women teach differently than men as well. It’s comforting to shoot with other like-minded women and the monthly range time is great for practicing reps and sets. I also like the classroom portion of our meetings where we learn good common sense, self-defense and situational awareness tactics. With our increasingly uncertain times I am confident I could handle situations I hadn’t even thought about before. Thanks, AWA, for this opportunity.
How Has Being A Member Changed Your Life?
I am more confident in how I carry myself and I believe I am more situationally aware of my surroundings. I routinely carry concealed whenever I leave our home now as our world devolves. I refuse to be a victim and will be alert for what comes. I’ve also learned how to avoid bad situations in the first place by not being where I shouldn’t be. I am comfortable having several types of firearms throughout my home and know how to use them if needed.
When you look at yourself and your AWA sisters, how would you define “Armed Women of America” not the organization, but the women who so boldly stand with you on the mission to be your own self-protector?
AWA and my fellow sisters are here to teach, support and cheer on one another as we all embark on promoting being our own self-protector. During our range time we help one another with issues we might be having whether it be gun malfunctions, sharing one another’s pistols (highly recommended), little tips to improve our grip or holsters, or hearing protectors, trying out new equipment is great too before we invest more money in something we might not actually like. My fellow sisters make shooting FUN! Thanks instructors and thanks everyone!
