My Story – Kristina Z

My Story

Kristina Z. (Clackamas, OR Chapter)

Why did you decide to join Armed Women of America?
I joined AWA because I was looking to connect with like-minded women since I moved to a new area. It was a chance to get out of the house doing something I love. Thanks to my parents I was able to learn gun safety and learn to shoot at the young age of 6 years old. We spent a good portion of our family time in the woods, shooting for fun.

How has being a member changed your life?
I took time to become more precise in my shooting and not just plinking on a target. I went from shooting all over the place on a target to use up the paper, to focusing on tightening groups. Being a member of AWA helped me learn a lot about helping others. It also helped build my confidence in my leadership skills. Watching women be excited to get better at something they are afraid of in the beginning is beyond rewarding. Seeing each woman grow into a confident and more outgoing person makes my heart full.

When you look at yourself & your AWA sisters, how would you define “Armed Women of America”, not the organization but the women who so boldly stand with you on the mission to be your own self-protector?
I define Armed Women of America as a group of women who made a bold decision to become their own hero. We choose to grow, learn, and defend ourselves, our family, and our friends. We build our confidence together, not just with firearms but in everyday activities. We are victors, not victims!
