My Story
Why did you decide to join AWA?
I joined AWA to get the experience I needed to feel comfortable with my firearm. I had taken a nine-week Citizens Police Academy class in our community. It was my first time to fire a handgun. After I completed the CPA class I did not continue to practice with my firearm because I felt intimidated at the firing range. Then I heard about AWA. I learn from our instructors and from the other members experiences!
How has being a member changed your life?
Being a member of AWA gives me the confidence and security of being a responsible gun owner. Our instructors are excellent. They aways “have our back” on the range. They are there to assist, teach and encourage. I am 73, have been a member for six years and continue to learn with AWA.
When you look at yourself and your AWA sisters, how would you define “Armed Women of America” not the organization, but the women who so boldly stand with you on the mission to be your own self-protector?
We are a mix of strong women. All ages, sizes and experiences. Some of the women are very experienced with their firearms and some are beginners. We are all together for the same reason — to be better and more responsible gun owners.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
Our instructors are phenomenal! They are so experienced and understanding. Great women who give of their time to help us be better gun owners. I really believe I am a better person because of all of the AWA members.
